Town Meeting #6 - October 28, 2009 - Pivot Point The fifth Reinventing Stamford town meeting took place on October 28th event from 6 to 9 pm at UConn-Stamford. This was the Pivot Point for the initiative; the first five town meetings created a sufficient amount of data and insights to take this amazing civic conversation to the next stage....development and execution of a strategy and tactics.
The October 28th event was a work session to confirm what our priorities must be and how to address them with real actions, real metrics for success, and real people doing real work that will have a dramatic effect on Stamford for decades to come.
As food for thought, attendees were provided a summary of a proposed strategy and detail on proposed projects, including projects to be sponsored by Reinventing Stamford, as well as projects by various organizations that align with the goals of the initiative.
A panel of four Reinventing Stamford stewards, Chris Bruhl of the Business Council of Fairfield County (economic perspective), Leigh Shemitz of Soundwaters (environmental perspective), Valeria Williams of Family ReEntry (social dimension), and Eric Dale of the Stamford Partnership and Robinson Cole (entrepreneurial perspective, moderated by Kip Bergstrom of the URC, discussed the draft strategy, including the emerging conditions which will have the greatest impact on Stamford, the general capabilities needed to exploit the conditions, the specific capabilities that Stamford needs to take control of its future, and the catalytic projects which will build the capabilities. Two project examples were spotlighted: the Stamford Innovation Center and the Next Generation Eastside project.
The small group discussion focused on fleshing out the proposed list of catalytic projects, with this set of lenses: Which projects will build the missing elements that Stamford needs in order to become a whole place? Of those, which would you be willing to help organize and fund?
Kathie Walsh of the Stamford Partnership moderated the report out and group discussion of the small group work on projects.
